it’s funner with a runner.

i ran this race last saturday… and had every intention of posting sooner, but alas, this girl touched a few too many door handles in seattle and came down with a raging cold/ear infection (evidently i’ve got the eustachian tubes of a 9 month old?).

BUT better late than never, right? let’s get to it.

so like i said in my last post, it rained x10000 on friday, so i had pretty low expectations for good weather, which, for me, translates to low expectations as far as getting a good time. however, saturday morning came, the sun was shining (not really. it was 5:30 am) and the running weather was perfect. the course started at the space needle, so we headed up that way and i got there just in time for the 7 am start. tangent- can i just say that not having a car and relying on public transit can make things a little sticky…. in the best possible way? it was really great, it was, but i am thankful for owning my own car.

anyway. the gun went off, i started running. truthfully speaking, i had no intention of getting that great of a time… until i started. then all of a sudden my tenacity was switched on and i just wanted to pass people… which may also be attributed to the awolnation pandora station i was listening to. i recommend it for pr’s. that,  coupled with a lower altitude than i’m used to translated to a total euphoric race…. which is apparent from the ridiculous race pictures that were captured of me on the course. shudder. even I am too vain to post those gems.

also, the course was great. a little country, a little lake, a little running in tunnels under the freeway… it kept you guessing. before i knew it, the race was almost over and i was attempting to sprint up a big ol’ hill. my mantra the whole time was TO MAKE THE HILLS MY… b@#$, and so that powered me up and over and all the way to the finish, crossing at 1:48:14.

best part of finishing the race? my aluminum foil cape and the delicious white bagel. (and that banana down my shirt)

it was a great race! i suggest it. i’m all about destination running, so if anybody wants to go anywhere cool and use a race as an excuse… i’m your girl. i’ve got my sights on lisboa.

we’ll see.
