welcome to the middle of winter! if you were wondering what is up with me, i am currently sitting here in this hole of a basement listening to the entire drake discography and looking at pizza recipes because what else is one to do on her morning off!!?? wednesday is like my saturday, and i am relishing. here’s some things from this week and last, you know, in the name of productivity. (and to convince you people that i do have some semblance of a life outside of learning how to stick people with needles)
it was ashley’s birthday. pro tip word to the wise: if you’re going to have a party for someone, you better let them know the party is going on before half the pizza is gone. whatever we lack in decency, we made up in two-bite cupcakes! and candles that say zero because age, be damned! (also, 0 is the most aesthetically pleasing digit.)
some weeks i “go to institute” but really the only reason is because chevy chase has the best shopping and best anthropologie in the DMV is right next door. the huckleberry cookbook is annoyingly awesome.
happy to live in shoebox with these folks. also happy about this dress, compliments of eliza. yes, i am wearing a sports bra in order to button it up but whatever looking like a boy is a small price to pay, as it was the most comfortable sunday of my life. the next three photos are really important. this is because they highlight tim and me going to farmers fishers bakers and ordering like pregnant women aka ALL THE THINGS. first, sushi.
been working a lot. this means eating a lot of founding farmers… but heck when free meals look like napa provencal trout with red whipped potatoes and kale, onion, pear sautee, life doesn’t seem that bad. i’m resurrecting cooking thursdays, a utah tradition from my byu days with prior group members who are on now missions or getting married. feels good to be back in a kitchen with countertops. last week was tofu miso pho with fresh spring rolls. i must have been someone’s italian grandmother in a previous life because cooking for people is so satisfying.
bike ride home. weaving through cars in traffic and having them honk and yell at me is one of my most favorite past times.after a long week at school, fridays are for mac and cheese with leslie knope. (trashed up with kale and chickpeas though, because NUTRIENTS!) my work just opened a new restaurant in tysons corner, va, so we had to go check it out. this coy little smile was probably made possible by a mouth stuffed with shrimp and grits.
those donuts are actually cronuts filled with vanilla bean cream that i wouldn’t mind living inside. honorable mention goes to the poached eggs and beet hash, shrimp and grits, french toast with caramelized apples, and dark hot chocolate with hazelnut crunch.
and then we went to church with our favorite eighteen year old who has told me multiple times that i am the equivalent of a hot aunt. i don’t know what that means, but i’ll take it!
