tyler

january 2018

what a month. it felt more like spring than anything else, but little did we know, snow was coming.

at the beginning of the month we continued our yearly tradition of seeing temple square lights after christmas… like on the day they turn them off. we like to live on the edge. in regards to food, i’m still cooking it up in tiny kitchen. another day, another pizza experiment. if your new years resolution is to eat more salad then i recommend this. also trader joe’s pizza dough is the best around. aaaaand, new year, new glasses. considering that i need them to see and they fall on the ground of hospitals frequently, i needed a cheap upgrade.

one weekend we went snowshoeing with some friends up at alta. it was so beautiful and actually felt like winter, something that we appreciated indeed. they’re getting married in march so it was fun to listen to brit’s wedding planning all while knowing that i won’t ever go through that again. phew.

and, january meant sundance! one of the best parts about living in utah is volunteering during the film festival. there are lots of perks and i just really love park city. this year i was on a theatre crew at the library theatre. that meant i spent my time telling people to follow signs and scoot in to the middle because it was going to be a full house. very fun. adults cannot follow directions. i saw lots of great films and a few big names. aaand i got the coveted volunteer jacket that is a big deal to no one other than sundance volunteers but i still wear it proudly… along with my geeky credential, pictured above. also isn’t thins the most picturesque view out the bathroom window??

mom came for a visit! i love seeing her. we went to settebello and saw the greatest showman. she slept on my couch and every time she has to sleep on that dumb thing i am more motivated to get a bigger place with a real bed for my poor mother. also i helped throw a bridal shower for britni! and i spent way too much time crafting this backdrop and making a banner that i should have just bought but thought i could be the DIY queen for once. it says love at first swipe. don’t worry, no one else got it either. but they met on tinder so at least the party girl thought it was funny!!! and a saturday spent in provo. i feel like such a granny every time i go there and i am among thousands of bright eyed bushy tailed college students. we went to pizza factory and ate carbs on sticks. does it get any better! tyler is modeling said breadstick.

besides that, i worked a lot and got some big news!!!!!

BYU rejected me from their NP program. lol.

i took it hard for a couple days but then decided it just wasn’t in the cards and continuing to work will be good for me and my resume. better days ahead!

we will end with my two best january creations.

my awful rat’s nest hair after working all week and living the bun life right before a good washing, and totchos.

totchos, you ask? tater tots with layers of cheese, beans, and soyrizo. with sour cream and guac. because sometimes you gotta clean out your fridge. try it!!!!!

december 2017

the holiday season is such a blur, this year was no different. i mean, maybe it was a bit blurred because i went back to night shift halfway thorough the month…?

bi-annual haircut happened this month. haha thank you, lex. and! i got to hang out with the world’s current cutest baby with the best cheeks. hanukah this year was celebrated in style in the kimball household. lox and eggs on homemade latkes. good enough to turn you jewish! this next photo was the christmas tree at work. the place was decked out, and one of my coworkers even made a rubber glove tree. that there is dedication. tyler’s family came to visit for a weekend and brought a new chair for my niece. as soon as she opened it up, the first thing she did was pose on it. HA! and, of course this year we got our tree from harmons… because they are the cutest ones, and just barely too tall, which i find endearing. we promptly strung popcorn and it was the cutest tree, imo.

also, here’s a picture of a biscuit i ate and my biscuit date. the restaurant smelled so heavily of bacon that after we left, MY HAIR SMELLED LIKE BACON. vegetarian nightmare. also, i opened all my christmas gifts early from my parents. because that is what you do as an impulsive adult. here i am, smugly modeling my new hat and sweater to send to my mom. she was not impressed 🙂 AND this weird awkward foot photo is one of my favorites because it signifies that both tyler and i were home at the same time during the EVENING and those events are far and few between these days, thanks to very opposite schedules. sigh.

this year we spent christmas in santa barbara. my first california christmas! it was so nice to have no snow or cold. and sun! and beaches! december ravaged southern california with the thomas fire right up until christmas. in fact, tyler’s family was under mandatory evacuation until a few short days before we arrived. of course, they all acted like it was nothing? just a little ash on the cars and “THANK YOU FIREFIGHTERS!” signs everywhere. if it was me, i would have been a nervous wreck. guess that’s the california lifestyle? haha

christmas was great. have you seen that meme that is like, “december 1-26 you’re full of christmas spirit. december 27-january1 you’re full of cheese. thereafter you’re just fat”. we LIVED that meme. and we ate so much cheese. tyler and i put together a pretty great charcuterie on christmas, it was awesome. new traditions! i even got new cheese knives from my inlaws.

most of our time was spent hanging out together. here we have some mistletoe hanging, christmas morning action shots, tyler and his new tools (seriously spoiled by milwaukee santa), and my favorite shot of my child husband. isn’t he objectively the cutest?? also, this last photo is my sister in law and my father in law… the photo is of my father in law as a young man and his dad. so, ya know. four generations and the SAME JACKET!  i guess this just proves you should never throw away ANY clothing?

and then i made us go outside. christmas walk! and the beach at montecito. this is the area that was completely ravaged by the mud slides last week. it is the most beautiful area, we are so sad. 😦

and that’s it, folks. all of 2017 has been accounted for. thanks for reading and sorry for the foot photos.

may 2017

in may i was really feeling the spring spirit so i did everything i could to plant things and grow my own garden. it…. kind of worked? lindsay helped me pick things out and plant em, then it was my job to kill about 1/3 of them… one day it will work! also that last one of tyler just made me laugh really hard.

speaking of tyler, he finally found his calling in life! i know this because he comes home and lays on the ground and falls asleep before he can take off his boots. also here’s a picture of a pizza. lavash pizzas forever!! they look fancy and they take 10 minutes. my freshman roommate friends got together with all the babies. holy crap they have a lot of kids. cute ones, too. aaaaaand tyler was just really proud of the top knot he had crafted, so we had to snap a pic for our progeny. twinners!

one weekend i went home with britni while tyler went on a biking trip with his brothers. it was great to be in boise in the spring! llamas and hiking in the GREEN foothills was so great.

aaaaand a cool storm from my hike at ensign peak and some hammock time on a sunday afternoon. after a long winter of too much snow it was just nice to be outside. also this photo of tyler looking real uncomfortable in his hammock makes me laugh so hard but idk maybe it’s because i am writing this at 4 am.

and! here’s a couple pics from our saturday trip to red butte garden and a couple other utah museums. the flowers were pretty but the best part was just walking around with tyler and actually feeling the SUN!!!!! ps don’t let my pale skin blind you.

march 2017

what a month.

our first full month of being married! our first time celebrating our two-days-apart-birthdays, a trip to southern utah, a visit from family, a wedding open house, and some good weather. all around a good month!

once the weather started getting a little warmer, we decided to commence camping season, or as i like to put it, “camfire hair season”. we opted for a trip to goblin valley to do some slot canyon hiking for a couple days. i had never canyon hiked before, and it was a really great experience… beside some super scary descents i would have never been able to do without some spotting from tyler. we camped on the side of the road and i got to use my FUD (female urination device… yep, google it) for the first time since tyler got it for me for christmas. guys. can i just say that peeing standing up is super weird? another highlight of our trip? campfire nachos! honestly the best decision after a seven mile hike! it was a great trip. i can’t wait to get out and explore more of southern utah this summer.

and then the rest of everything else! some of the highlights were tyler starting a new job (see his excited selfie face a few rows down) as an electrician’s apprentice, the cherry blossoms at the capitol and just generally spring FINALLY coming, oh, and there’s a rare image of me in makeup with hair done. also here’s a few snapchat pics for good measure. in march we were OBSESSED with the OJ simpson trial series, hence the creepy tyler/oj mash up. (sorry for the pending nightmares.) we also ate a lot of good food dates… ie nielsen’s frozen custard and from scratch. their risotto cake is sooooo gooooooood.

oh, and you can’t forget our birthdays! since tyler and i are two days apart on the birthday front, we had a week of celebration (just kidding i totally worked on his birthday… real adult life womp womp). we went out for sushi for tyler’s 29th, and biked to greek food for mine… followed up with double fisting halo top ice cream, because we were pretty obsessed with it all spring.

november 2016

we like to play a little game every day called, “there are x days until we are getting married, and this is what we were doing x days ago!” guys. those “this is what we were doing x days ago” things used to be a glimmer in the past, but now they are days that happened in november! and that means i am really behind!

anyway, without further ado. NOVEMBER! aka, …still engaged. feeling like we might be engaged forever.

lots of fun things happened this month. we joined a gym (lol). we go to planet fitness and gym-timidate everyone there, especially when we coordinate our outfits. i got my engagement ring, which i am pretty obsessed with, so good job, tyler. wow that was a lot of commas. tyler had my ring custom made off a photo he found on one of my pinterest boards i showed him one time during the summer. he is the best. it is perfect. for thanksgiving we went to santa barbara to see tyler’s family and take our engagement photos. it was really fun to be somewhere warm again, and santa barbara is a great place. we hiked and went to the beach, heck, i even came home with a new car. we came back to utah with the harsh reality of snow and work and real life… but had fun nonetheless.

sept 2016

i’m behind. ooooooops

september was really great! i took a couple weeks off work and headed back east to see friends, go to a wedding, and see adele in concert. tyler came with me for a minute so i could indoctrinate him on the greatness that is washington, dc.

in the early part of the month, my family showed up on one weekend. they tend to do that. this is the good thing about living close by… lots of surprise visits. we hiked up to donut falls with just about every other breathing individual in salt lake city? anyway, lots of photos happened, obviously.

then we went to washington, dc! it was so good to be back and see my favorite people. we went to my friend from nursing school’s wedding in maryland, ate at all my favorite restaurants, rode bikes around the national mall, kayaked around the potomac, and took a little trip up to philadelphia to get a cheesesteak and see the magic gardens. it was a great trip

after dc tyler went home and i went to florida to visit diana in her paradise wonderland home of miami. we spent lots of time on yelp finding good things to eat, went to south beach and used a ton of bug spray because ZIKA, paddle boarded, played kickball and karaoked, AND i was in bed every night by 10 pm. it was so great.

last but not least i flew up to new york city to meet with a couple friends to see adele. new york in the fall will always be one of my top favorite things- perfect weather coupled with good company, great things to eat, and a hustle atmosphere. i am very into it. adele was so, so so so so good. she is an angel. plus i got to sit a lot during the concert. i might be old, but i think sitting at concerts is my love language.

and then i came home to utah and got engaged…. so yes, i will chalk up september as being a pretty great month. pics below. not for the faint of heart! there’s a lot of em! godspeed!
